BAKERSFIELD, CA — Senator Melissa Hurtado released the following statement on the lenient sentencing of a former County Supervisor by Kern County Superior Court for felony child abuse charges as families across Kern County express outrage and concern:

"I have no doubt, and the public has made this clear too, that our justice system failed this child at every step of the way. At a time when this child deserves privacy and the space to heal, we must continue to pursue justice and accountability, so no child is ever failed like this again,” said Senator Melisssa Hurtado.
