SACRAMENTO, CA – Today, State Senator Melissa Hurtado (D-Sanger) is pleased to announce that Valley Public Radio (KVPR) was named Senate District 14’s 2019 Nonprofit of the Year. Each year, California legislators are invited to choose a Nonprofit of the Year in their district that have exemplified leadership throughout their region.

“As a district that is comprised of some of the most rural communities in California, presenting timely access to information is invaluable,” stated Senator Melissa Hurtado. “Serving the Central Valley, our region relies on non-partisan reporting of local issues and news to ensure that we are given the opportunity to fight for our fair share of resources in the state of California. Moreover, the community work and art promoted through KVPR provides our region with the ability to sustain our diverse culture and share our own unique stories.”

Joe Moore, President & General Manager of KVPR, says the honor is a tribute to the station’s service to the valley. “For over 40 years, KVPR has been a trusted source for news and classical music in Central California. To be recognized for our service to the community is a great honor, and the credit goes to our dedicated staff, our hard working volunteers and our generous individual, corporate and foundation supporters. Together, they have all helped to build the station that we have today, and have helped make our region a better place,” said Moore.
