Senator Hurtado proposes bill to pay farmworkers suffering from drought
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The California Farmworker Foundation says with the worsening drought over the past few years, 20% of the agriculture industry has been wiped out, which means farmworkers today have less work than ever before.
"California's farmworkers are crucial to our state's food supply chain and our overall economy, and this pilot project will ensure that funds go directly to our most vulnerable farmworkers, the backbone of our state, who really need the funds the most," Melissa Hurtado, Senator for the 14th District (D), said.
Friday, Senator Melissa Hurtado held a press conference at the California Farmworker Foundation in Delano for senate bill 1066 or the California Farmworker Drought Resilience Pilot project.
