Assemblymember Jasmeet Bains and Senator Melissa Hurtado Celebrate Budget Win with Ceremonial Giant Check to City of Wasco Residents and Leaders

WASCO, CA – Assemblymember Jasmeet Bains (D-Bakersfield) and Senator Melissa Hurtado (D-Bakersfield) joined City of Wasco residents and leaders for a community celebration of the $5 million the legislators secured in the state budget for police services.

“I was excited to join Assemblymember Bains, Wasco residents and community leaders in celebrating this important occasion. The funding secured in the state budget will empower our police officers to continue meeting the city’s needs, and we are excited to celebrate alongside our partners with the City of Wasco, the Wasco Police Services Department, and Kern County Sheriffs,” said Senator Hurtado.

“I am so proud to support Wasco’s efforts to establish its own police department,” said Dr. Bains. “This investment will improve response times and enhance public safety with a dedicated police force sworn to protect and serve the City of Wasco. We made this happen working together with the city, Senator Hurtado, and our entire Kern County coalition.”

A ceremonial check presented by the legislators to city leaders symbolized the substantial investment in local police officers to continue meeting the needs of an important city situated at the intersection of highways 43 and 46, in the heart of the Central Valley.
