Beat the Heat in a Local Cooling Center

A heat advisory has been issued for August 15th and 16th in the Southern Central Valley. Temperatures are expected to near 110 degrees over the next week. The following locations will be open as cooling centers in the Central Valley to help residents escape the heat:

KERN COUNTY 

Cooling centers in Bakersfield, Shafter, McFarland and Arvin are scheduled to open starting at 1 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Arvin Community Center, 800 Walnut Drive

East Bakersfield Veterans Building, 2101 Ridge Road

The Mission at Kern County, 816 E. 21st Street

Rasmussen Senior Center, 115 E Roberts Lane

McFarland Veterans Center, 103 W Sherwood Avenue

Walker Senior Center, 505 Sunset Avenue

The county says visitors are encouraged to wear a face covering and they will be screened for temperature and for symptoms of COVID-19. Social distancing will be enforced inside. 

If you need transportation to a cooling center, you are asked to call 211.

Fresno city officials say the centers will not allow the use of recreational equipment or games to avoid the spread of COVID-19. Those who are sick are asked to stay home.

Fresno FAX buses will provide free transportation to all city cooling centers.
