Governor Sign Bills by Senator Melissa Hurtado to Build Healthier Communities in Rural Areas
SACRAMENTO, CA – Last week, Governor Gavin Newsom signed Senator Melissa Hurtado’s (D-Sanger) legislations, Senate Bill 513 and 351. The bills will address expanding healthier access for communities in rural and unincorporated areas by providing relief for families without reliable access to water as well as ensure access to resources from the Transformative Climate Communities program.
“Today, families within Senate District 14 continue to experience a lack of access to clean water supply and environmental sustainability,” stated Sen. Hurtado. “That’s why this year, I worked with local leaders to raise awareness about the health conditions that currently impact the southern Central Valley. SB 513 and 351 help address these issues and I am beyond grateful for a leadership that is dedicated to represent California’s most underserved communities,” continued Sen. Hurtado.
Senator Melissa Hurtado’s signed Bills:
SB 513: Household Water Tanks for Homes with Dry Wells
This bill will provide relief for rural families without reliable access to water by providing a temporary alternative source of water supply, including water tanks.
SB 351: Fair Share of Transformative Climate Communities Dollars for Unincorporated Communities
Will help ensure unincorporated communities have access to implementation funding from the Transformative Climate Communities program.
Updates to the program will be made effective January 1, 2020.
