Hurtado releases statement on slain Deputy Campas

SACRAMENTO, CA – Today, Senator Melissa Hurtado (D-Sanger) released the following statement regarding the death of Kern County Sheriff Deputy Phillip Campas:
 

“I offer my deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Deputy Phillip Campas,” said Senator Hurtado. “We will never forget the courage shown by Deputy Campas and his colleagues in service to the community and we pray for a speedy recovery for the second injured deputy.”
 

Deputy Phillip Campas served honorably in the United States Marine Corps, was a member of the Kern County Sheriff Office’s SWAT Team and Kern County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard. While responding to a hostage situation in Wasco, he and another deputy were shot. Deputy Campas succumbed to his injuries.
