Senator Hurtado Celebrates Public Safety Budget Win with Ceremonial Check Presentation to City of Avenal Residents and Leaders

AVENAL, CA – Senator Melissa Hurtado (D-Bakersfield) joined City of Avenal residents and leaders for a community celebration of the $1 million the Senator secured in the state budget for public safety equipment and facilities maintenance for the city’s police department and veterans hall.

“It was a privilege to join City of Avenal residents and community leaders, as well as law enforcement professionals in celebrating this important occasion. The funding secured in the state budget will empower our police officers to continue meeting the city’s needs today and in the future” said Senator Hurtado. “Public Safety is my top priority, and I am always honored to work with our law enforcement professionals wherever and whenever possible.”

“Senator Hurtado has always been a friend of law enforcement, and it’s always been appreciated by our team and our community,” said Avenal Police Chief Robert Nevarez. “Today’s celebration is just another example of support beyond words, and why we look forward to working with Senator Hurtado in the future.”

A ceremonial check presented to city leaders symbolized the substantial investment in local police officers to continue meeting the needs of an important city, the Pistachio Capitol of the World, situated at the intersection of highways 33 and 269, in the heart of the Central Valley.
