SACRAMENTO, CA – Senate Concurrent Resolution 86, targeted at designating the 19th Avenue Lemoore Overpass as the “Officer Jonathan Diaz Memorial Overcrossing” won bipartisan approval June 11, 2020 from the California State Senate with a 37-0 vote. The resolution by state Senator Melissa Hurtado, D-Sanger will memorialize the fallen Officer’s service and contributions to the community.

Officer Jonathan Diaz was a father of three and began his law enforcement career in his hometown of Huron, California. In 2016, he moved to the Lemoore Police Department and was awarded Officer of the Year in 2018.  He went on to earn the position of Gang Investigator for the Kings County Major Crimes Task Force while mentoring at-risk youth through the Youth Adult Awareness Program.

On November 2, 2019, Officer Jonathan Diaz, was fatally shot and killed while attending to a domestic dispute. During the altercation he successfully intervened to save a victim only to be fatally shot returning to deescalate the disagreement.

“I am grateful to have the support of my colleagues in remembering Officer Johnathan Diaz for his heroic work in the community. May his memory and service forever be blessing to his family and community” said Senator Melissa Hurtado.
