Senator Hurtado Joins City of Sanger to Celebrate Clean Water for Residents

(SANGER, CA) – The City of Sanger is hosting a ribbon cutting to celebrate the new operations of the city’s new water systems and holding tank.  The 750,000 gallon tank, nitrate blending station and booster pumps is a joint project with the California Division of Drinking Water and the U.S Economic Development Administration to help the city to serve the residents with clean water.  With $4 million secured through State investments, this project took about a year to complete.  
As a lifelong resident of Sanger, Senator Hurtado is too familiar when we tell loved ones not to drink from the water faucet. “Water is health. Water is Life. This water tank represents years of effort by community members and city leaders in securing funding for a basic human right. I applaud the Mayor and Councilmembers in their relentless effort to procure funding at the State level. When a community is united, a lot can be accomplished. I look forward to this being the first of many celebrations across our Senate district” said Senator Melissa Hurtado.

WHERE: South West Corner of Church Avenue and J Street 

WHY: Due to low water pressure and a lack of storage capacity, the City of Sanger was unable to keep up with current business and residential water demands.  This resulted in low water pressure and a need for additional capacity for the city and region.  Through advocacy led by Senator Hurtado the new storage tank was built, with an additional water well to come, to improve water pressure and water quality year round.  This project is part of Senator Hurtado’s procurement of $15 million in one-time general funds in the State Budget. The funds will address failing water systems that deliver safe clean drinking water to California’s most vulnerable communities.
