Senator Melissa Hurtado to Hold Informational Hearings to Examine Vulnerable Populations During the COVID-19 Pandemic

(Sacramento, CA) – Senator Melissa Hurtado (D-Sanger), Chair of the Senate Committee on Human Services, will host two informational hearings on the effects of COVID-19 today and tomorrow.  On Monday the committee will examine how foster care is being impacted by the pandemic and on Tuesday it will study the status of food assistance for vulnerable populations during COVID-19. 

Senator Hurtado is convening panels of experts, including representatives from the Department of Social Services and county human services offices; advocates for youth, caregivers and families within the foster care system; and anti-hunger advocates, to discuss these important topics.  Presentation topics to include the impact of the pandemic on children in foster care and vulnerable populations, including farmworkers and older adults, who are struggling to get enough to eat.
