And, when you have, you know, employees that are getting sick, that are at higher risk, farm workers need to be prioritized because of the nature of the work, said Senator Hurtado.




SACRAMENTO — Senator Melissa Hurtado (D-Sanger) secured Governor Gavin Newsom’s signature on legislation that will speed the permit process for low-income Central Valley communities to deliver clean drinking water for residents.

The bill, Senate Bill 974, exempts new water projects that serve small, rural communities from some provisions of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). The exemption allows low-income communities to find relief for the expensive and exhaustive permit process to produce water wells and related projects.




A San Joaquin Valley legislator is seeking answers from the Medical Board of California as to why the oversight agency allowed a Bakersfield doctor to remain in practice even though it determined he had been negligent with patients.

Obstetrician-gynecologist Dr. Arthur Park has been associated with the deaths of at least seven mothers and babies during childbirth, according to public documents. He’s also been the subject of at least two investigations by the state medical board, and has been a defendant in at least 10 malpractice or personal injury lawsuits.




A bill that would have provided the necessary funds to fix the sagging Friant-Kern Canal was killed by the state legislature on Thursday.

State Sen. Melissa Hurtado (D-Sanger) introduced SB 559 to the legislature in February 2019, but the Assembly Appropriations Committee stuck it in the suspense file since August of last year, delaying its consideration to the 2020 legislative session.
