SACRAMENTO, CA – Tonight, Senator Melissa Hurtado (D-Sanger) released the following statement regarding President Joseph Biden’s State of the Union Address:

“It has been an honor of a lifetime to have been part of President Biden’s National Latino Committee,” said Senator Hurtado. “I am excited to see our collective agenda being implemented, and even more so for the President’s focus on rural and disadvantaged communities. The American Rescue Plan is helping heal through much needed food assistance to many people who are struggling as we recover from the COVID-19 pandemic – and I’m working to ensure that California does its part too. I’m also working with our federal partners to ensure that the President’s American Jobs plan provides funding to fix the Central Valley’s failing water infrastructure, helping to make our water conveyance systems more resilient in the face of drought.”
 

President Biden gave his State of the Union Address today, where he discussed his American Rescue Plan, and his first 100 days in office. This year Senator Hurtado introduced the State Water Resiliency Act of 2021 (Senate Bill 559) that would provide funding to repair and restore the capacity of California’s critical water conveyance infrastructure. Senate Bill 559 is a companion bill with federal legislation authored by U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein and Central Valley Congressman, Jim Costa.
