Senator Melissa Hurtado Issues Statement on Iran Drone Threats to California

SACRAMENTO, Calif – Senator Melissa Hurtado (D-Bakersfield) released the following statement after news reports indicated that the Federal Bureau of Investigation warned California police departments about Iranian drone threats in February:

“Californians cannot assume global conflicts won’t touch us. The recent FBI warning about a potential Iranian drone threat here in our state is a reminder that hybrid threats – from cyberattacks to threats using emerging technologies – are real and have been here for some time. Protecting our communities and critical infrastructure reflects our Valley Values – looking out for one another and staying prepared. I urge local law enforcement and community leaders to remain vigilant as new threats emerge.”

Senator Melissa Hurtado is Chair of Senate Budget Subcommittee #4 on State Administration and General Government and currently represents the 16th Senate District in the California Legislature, which includes portions of Fresno, Tulare, Kings and Kern Counties.
