SELMA, CA – State Senator Melissa Hurtado (D-Sanger), representing the 14th Senate District in California, which includes cities in Fresno, Kern, Kings and Tulare counties, hosted a water roundtable discussion with state and local leaders on Tuesday, November 12 in Selma, California. Attended by more than 65 partners, community members presented a southern Central Valley perspective on the impacts of limited access to clean drinking water and water supplies utilized for irrigation purposes.

SACRAMENTO, CA – Today, Governor Gavin Newsom signed Senator Melissa Hurtado’s (D-Sanger) legislation, SB 436, which would help prevent child abuse and neglect. The bill, which received bi-partisan support, will formalize Family Resource Centers (FRC) as a key delivery network of services and as conduits to strengthening families via family-centered, community-based and culturally sensitive services that include cross-system collaboration with the goal of helping to prevent child abuse and strengthen family connections.




SACRAMENTO, CA – Last week, Governor Gavin Newsom signed Senator Melissa Hurtado’s (D-Sanger) legislations, Senate Bill 513 and 351. The bills will address expanding healthier access for communities in rural and unincorporated areas by providing relief for families without reliable access to water as well as ensure access to resources from the Transformative Climate Communities program.

The legislation, SB 351, SB 453 and SB 260 aims to provide unincorporated communities with access to implementation funding from the Transformative Climate Communities program, make it easier for older adults and people living with disabilities, as well as their families, to access support through additional funding, and help ensure Californians maintain health coverage.




SACRAMENTO, CA – Senator Melissa Hurtado’s (D-Sanger) legislation, SB 559, was extended into a two-year bill during its review in the Assembly Appropriations Committee. The bill, which has received bipartisan support, helps secure California’s water supply by setting up a policy framework to invest in the Friant-Kern Canal, one of San Joaquin Valley’s most critical water deliver facilities.

The bill, which received bi-partisan support, would have required that all California counties develop a suicide prevention plan while focusing on the staggering rise in deaths among adolescents.
