“Today we remember the over one million ethnic Armenians who were brutally and systemically murdered during the First World War,” said Senator Hurtado. “In order for justice and healing to occur, there must be truth and accountability. “The Governor’s actions could not come at a worse time for the Central Valley, which is already reeling from a drought that – together with this decision – may cause a national food crisis. Energy makes up 19 percent of the American food supply chain. Make no doubt the cost of food will increase and severely impact the health of vulnerable communities who are already struggling. We cannot repeat the food crisis of 1974. The potential consequences of a food crisis extend beyond the Central Valley and California. We can all do better and be part of the solution.”

SACRAMENTO, CA – Senator Melissa Hurtado (D-Sanger) today introduced the State Water Resiliency Act of 2021 – legislation that will provide up to $785 million to restore the capacity of California’s critical water delivery infrastructure and repair aging roads and bridges.

Among the topic of issues is a onetime appropriation ask, requested by Senator Melissa Hurtado. The request includes a $12 million appropriation in the 2019 Budget Act for the Dolores Huerta Foundation (DHF) and Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Center (MLKJFC)’s Youth and Family Civic Engagement Initiative.

SACRAMENTO, CA--With California water allocations slashed to only 5 percent following another dry winter, Senator Melissa Hurtado (D-Sanger) announced that she is seeking ideas from her Central Valley constituents for ways that California can conserve water and remain resilient in the face of devastating drought conditions.

“California needs our best ideas, and no region is affected by drought more than the Central Valley – our families and farmers power the greatest agricultural region in the world,” Hurtado said. “I’m asking the residents of Senate District 14 to share their policy ideas and budget suggestions for how we cope with reduced water. We can overcome these difficult times, but only when we hear from all Californians.”
