Fresno, CA – Health care leaders, state legislators and medical professionals from across the region gathered in Fresno on Friday to highlight two new programs that have already directed more than $110 million in state tobacco fee revenues across the state which specifically help improve access to health care in the Central Valley. With 30 percent of the statewide award going to the Central Valley, UCSF – Fresno will be receiving $2.8 million for 15 residency slots. Meanwhile, the City of Fresno is expected to receive a total of $4.4 million for 22 positions.

SACRAMENTO, CA – Today, Governor Gavin Newsom signed Senator Melissa Hurtado’s (D-Sanger) legislation, SB 436, which would help prevent child abuse and neglect. The bill, which received bi-partisan support, will formalize Family Resource Centers (FRC) as a key delivery network of services and as conduits to strengthening families via family-centered, community-based and culturally sensitive services that include cross-system collaboration with the goal of helping to prevent child abuse and strengthen family connections.

The bill, which has received bipartisan support, helps secure California’s water supply by setting up a policy framework to invest in the Friant-Kern Canal, one of San Joaquin Valley’s most critical water deliver facilities.
