SACRAMENTO, CA – Senator Melissa Hurtado (D-Sanger) issued the following statement on Governor Gavin Newsom’s State of the State speech:

For too long, the Central Valley has been underrepresented and underappreciated - resulting in families who have experienced poverty-stricken conditions. However, today’s State of the State speech by Governor Gavin Newsom demonstrates his enthusiasm to collaborate across the state. I am beyond excited that he has highlighted our communities and recognizes that an investment in the Central Valley, is an investment for all of California.




SACRAMENTO, CA – Senator Melissa Hurtado (D-Sanger), representing the 14th State Senate District, was assigned as Chair of the Human Services Committee for the 2019 – 2020 Legislative session. As an advocate in the Central Valley for growing opportunities in upward mobility, Senator Hurtado will guide the committee on issues including child welfare services, CalWorks, developmental disability services and more. 




SACRAMENTO, CA – Today, Senator Melissa Hurtado (D-Sanger), along with principal co-author Assemblymember Marc Levine (D-San Rafael) and co-author Sen. Jim Beall (D-San Jose), introduced SB 331, legislation that emphasizes a more proactive approach on preventing suicides. The bill will require that all California counties develop a suicide prevention plan while focusing on the staggering rise in deaths among adolescents.




SACRAMENTO, CA – Today, Senator Melissa Hurtado (D-Sanger) introduced legislation to help Californians keep health coverage during life transitions.  

SB 260 will require health plans and insurers to give consumers who lose their coverage for any reason notices of the availability of Medi-Cal and Covered California coverage. The bill will also make it easier for Covered California to reach out to consumers, who have lost their coverage to help minimize gaps in their coverage.

FRESNO, CA –Senator Melissa Hurtado (D-Sanger) and Senator Anna Caballero (D-Salinas) hosted a joint Community Swearing-In Ceremony at Carpenter Local 701 in Fresno, California on Friday, January 25.
